Dr. Talha İşsevenler, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Colin Powell School, has published Political Sociology — an open-access textbook inspired by a course he taught in the Department of Sociology and developed in collaboration with Open Educational Resources.
The book covers topics including political spacetime, violence, secrecy, social movements, biopolitics, and media, with multimedia pedagogical exercises woven throughout. Dr. İşsevenler celebrated the launch with a virtual event organized with the support of the Department of Sociology on May 12th.
Professor İşsevenler’s focus of study is theoretical and ethnographic sociology, and he specializes in the intersections of time (temporality), technology, and power. Besides teaching at the Powell School’s department of Sociology, he’s also an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Barnard College.
