Colin Powell School Welcomes 500+ New Students!

By: Colin Powell School

Last week, the Colin Powell School proudly welcomed more than 500 new students at an energizing orientation event held in CCNY’s iconic Great Hall. For many, the day marked the start of an exciting new chapter—a milestone filled with possibility, transition, and discovery. The Powell School team went all out to ensure that both students and their families had the chance to explore campus life and learn about the many opportunities the School provides.

This year’s New Student Orientation was built around three guiding themes: Get Involved, Make Connections, and Own Your Experience. Each theme was tied to a Powell School unit, showcasing the wide range of resources available to students—from the Office of Student Success and the Office of Academic Advising to fellowships, internships, and the School’s many centers and institutes. In his opening remarks, Interim Dean Kevin Foster encouraged students to dive in, ask questions, and build meaningful connections.

The day’s interactive activities gave students the chance to reflect, engage, and connect with one another. Together, they shared their hopes for the semester, their biggest concerns, and their best advice for navigating the journey ahead—offering a real-time snapshot of what it means to begin college as part of the Powell School community.
