Testimonials

Saleha Saleh

I had the pleasure of meeting Maya at CCNY when she was informing students about various fellowship and internship opportunities, including the Edward I. Koch Fellowship in Public Service. At that time, I wasn’t sure what I needed to do for my career development, but Maya guided me through it all, even helping me apply for that fellowship.Maya was pivotal in my career growth. She helped me apply for internships and jobs, crafting impactful resumes and cover letters that showcased my strengths. She also connected me with internship opportunities at great organizations including Catholic Charities Archdiocese of NY, Kota Alliance, and iRaise Boys and Girls International Corporation, ensuring that I received the necessary support to excel during these internships.

These experiences significantly enhanced my resume and prepared me effectively for the job market.Even after graduation, Maya continues to support me with graduate school applications and finding more opportunities for development, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to student success. Her dedication, knowledge, and genuine care for each individual’s growth make her an exceptional mentor.I had the opportunity to work closely with Maya, gaining invaluable knowledge from her expertise, and I encourage others to seize the opportunity to benefit from her guidance and support.

My experience with Maya has been one that I will never forget. I was navigating the college world by myself because of the lack of resources that I had at home and then I met Maya. We spoke about the careers and jobs that I am passionate about and I was able to come to the conclusion that I wanted to go into the Human Resource field. This was the first time that I finally knew what I wanted to do with my career and with Maya’s help it became reality. She connected me to work as an intern at a job that specialized in Human Resources and to this day I am in touch with those same workers. It was the best experience that I have ever had in a job setting and I have to thank Maya for that. She made sure to give me options of different jobs that I could do and because of her guidance, I was able to (1) save up money from the internship to start my Masters in Chicago and (2) expand my resume to satisfy future hiring managers about my experience in Human Resources. Overall, Maya is someone that I will never forget and I thank her for her patience and help with finding the career that will shape me to be the person that I want to be.

In my two years of studying at the City College of New York (CCNY), I met many wonderful people, but one person I am especially thankful to have met is Maya Gutierrez. If you believe in guardian angels, Maya was mine.I met Maya shortly after transferring from LaGuardia Community College while I was looking for job opportunities at CCNY. I called her office number, not expecting anyone to answer, but she did. I introduced myself and explained that I was seeking job opportunities at CCNY. After our conversation, I didn’t expect much to come of it, but a few days later, she followed up with an email full of fellowship links. I had never participated in any fellowships before and found the idea strange and unlikely, but with Maya’s encouragement, I applied. Before I knew it, I was applying for more fellowships.

Maya was an integral part of my experience at CCNY. She not only helped me find fellowships I could qualify for and encouraged me to apply, but she also opened new doors for me. She connected me with the Research Assistant position for a Mexican Federal Research Council Project, where I served as a Research Assistant. Maya truly cares about what she does and the students at CCNY. She goes above and beyond to help students find and connect with the right career opportunities.

Even after graduating from CCNY about a month ago, Maya is still helping me apply for jobs and craft cover letters. Maya is undoubtedly an essential part of CCNY.If you have the chance to work with Maya, seize the opportunity!
