MPA Students Expand Their Professional Horizons at the Annual Nonprofit New York Conference

By: Colin Powell School

On November 12th, a group of MPA students, accompanied by program staff had the exciting opportunity to attend the annual Nonprofit New York Conference, made possible by faculty member Lakimja Mattocks and the support of Nonprofit New York.

The MPA Program places a strong emphasis on professional development and this experience was a prime example. At the conference, they joined more than 1,000 nonprofit professionals to explore emerging trends in nonprofit management, equity-centered leadership, and public service innovation. Students collaborated, exchanged ideas, and gained practical insights that deepened their understanding of the sector while opening new pathways for their careers.

This experience highlights the role faculty mentorship and access to professional networks play in allowing students to break out of the traditional classroom, engaging directly with real-world challenges and preparing to make meaningful contributions in public service and beyond.
