Ayesha Khan, a Health Opportunities and Leadership Institute (HOLI) Fellow at the Colin Powell School and third-year medical student at the CUNY School of Medicine, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright-Fogarty Fellowship in Public Health. Khan will spend the upcoming academic year in Kathmandu, Nepal, leading a community-centered research project to combat rising dengue fever outbreaks.
In Nepal, Khan will partner with Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences to train 200 local high school students across 10 districts to survey neighborhood awareness, environmental risk factors, and dengue prevention practices. She will integrate their findings into a central database at the Mathematical Biology Research Center to map disease hotspots in the urban area. Khan’s work exemplifies the Colin Powell School’s commitment to combining rigorous policy analysis with community-engaged action, applying grassroots health strategies to critical global public health challenges.
