Colin Powell School Leaders Among Mayor-Elect Mamdani’s Transition Team

By: Colin Powell School

Several members of the Colin Powell School community are playing a key role in Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani’s transition committees. Among them are Hannah Towfiek, alum and former Colin Powell Fellow; Lorelei Salas, Leader-in-Residence; Alondra Nelson, who serves on the Moynihan Center’s Advisory Committee; and Julissa Reynoso, who has previously shared her insights on campus as a Conversations in Leadership speaker.

Their participation brings a wealth of experience and perspective to the transition process. Hannah Towfiek (Committee on Youth and Education) has been a dynamic force in public service and policy, exemplifying the School’s mission of preparing students to lead with impact. As Leader-in-Residence, Lorelei Salas (Committee on Worker Justice), offers invaluable guidance to students and faculty alike, bridging practical leadership with real-world policy experience. Julissa Reynoso (Committee on Legal Affairs), a trailblazing diplomat and leader, brings her extensive background in law, international relations, and public service to help shape the committees’ work. And Alondra Nelson (Committee on Technology), member of The Moynihan Center Board of Advisors, brings recent experience as former deputy assistant to President Joe Biden.

These distinguished members’ involvement reflects the School’s enduring commitment to fostering connections between its alumni, fellows, and the broader network of leaders who are making a difference locally and globally. Their expertise strengthens the transition committees and inspires the next generation of students and emerging leaders at the Colin Powell School.
