DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY AND INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAMS
The Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) major draws on interdisciplinary scholarship from the social sciences, including anthropology, sociology, economics, political sciences, women and gender studies, as well as from disciplines in the humanities, such as history, literature, the arts, and black studies.
LALS provides students with a comprehensive and foundational education of Latin America, the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, and U.S. Latino/a/x Studies. An undergraduate specialization prepares students to pursue graduate degrees; careers in public and private institutions; local and international organizations, including non-profits (NGOs) and diasporic bureaucracies representing Latin American and Caribbean nations in the US; and within local and state-wide institutions working with the Latino/a/x community.
