Welcome to the Psychology Department! We train the most students on the City College campus. Our graduates pursue careers in mental health, research, and medicine. The department has 7 different training programs, which can lead to either certification or licensure for psychotherapy in New York State. Undergraduate students can work towards a BA, BS, or BA/MA degree in Psychology. Students in the BA/MA program, which allows one to work toward the two degrees simultaneously (with only 10 extra credits), choose concentrations in either Research or NYS Certification in Substance Use Counseling. Graduate students can work toward either an MA or PhD degree. Students in the MA program in Mental Health Counseling take courses meeting NYS requirements for counseling licensure to practice psychotherapy. Students in the MA program in General Psychology, which includes a thesis option, can improve their job opportunities and their competitiveness for doctoral programs. Students in the PhD program in clinical psychology, which is one of the leading doctoral programs in the country, receive top-flight training in psychotherapy. Join us to explore your interest in the awesome field of psychology.

“I chose CCNY because it was close to home (Bronx), and the diversity of the student and faculty population encouraged me to pursue my degree there. At CCNY I had the opportunity to meet people that have become part of my network both professionally and personally.”
Alice graduated CCNY with a BA in Psychology. She is now the Founder and CEO at Centering Wholeness Counseling.
