Powell School Student Kathryn Gioiosa Named to Forbes 30 Under 30

By: Colin Powell School

Political Science major Kathryn Gioiosa ‘26 was named to this year’s Forbes 30 Under 30 List under their Social Impactsection. Gioiosa is the co-founder of TREEage, a youth-led climate activism organization that has 2,500 active high school and college members across all five New York City boroughs. The organization’s leadership helped pass the Build Public Renewables Act and the NY Climate Fund.

Gioiosa’s leadership and commitment to public services also earned her another impressive accolade: the Truman Scholarship. Earlier this year, Gioiosa was selected amongst a competitive pool of applicants from across the country as one of the 54 Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation’s recipients for 2025, and the only one from New York state.

Coming from Forest Hills, Queens, Gioiosa is also a Moynihan Center Public Service Fellow and was, previously, a Colin Powell School Climate Policy Fellow.

In addition to serving as co-executive director of TREEage, Gioiosa also sits on the steering committee and co-leads the organizing committee of New York Renews, a coalition of over 390 environmental, justice, faith, and labor organizations statewide.

Gioiosa first became interested in public policy in the areas of infrastructure and climate change as a high school student. The daughter of a teacher, she experienced first-hand how some Queens public schools are afflicted with problems such as lead-tainted water or faulty heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Committed to making New York City a safe, healthy, and flourishing city for all, Gioiosa plans to pursue a joint master’s degree in public policy and urban planning after graduation.
