PhD Candidate Rhyan Toledo Wins Poster Award at APA Spring Conference

By: Colin Powell School

Rhyan Toledo, a PhD candidate in Clinical Psychology, has received a poster award at the American Psychological Association’s Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology spring conference — one of only two posters selected for the honor.

The poster was drawn from Toledo’s dissertation research, which recruited LGBTQ+ students across CUNY. The project was funded through the Colin Powell Graduate Fellowship, support that she describes as essential to bringing the work to life. With the fellowship, she was able to recruit over 300 LGBTQ+ CUNY students and compensate each participant $20 for their time.

“I truly could not have imagined being able to fully realize this study without the support of the fellowship,” Toledo said. “I was able to recruit over 300 LGBTQ+ CUNY students and pay all participants $20 for their time, which was really important to me.” Toledo will present her work at the conference in the coming weeks.
