On April 7th, the Colin Powell School’s Public Service Career Hub brought together 13 student candidates for a full-day workshop in partnership with the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The event was designed to give students an introductory look at the field of educational advancement and to prepare them for the opportunity ahead. Ten reserved seats in the CASE summer internship are available to City College students, and the candidates in the room are actively interviewing for those spots.
The day opened with a field overview led by Pedro and Robert, offering students a broad picture of what a career in advancement looks like from fundraising and donor relations to communications and institutional strategy. Students then broke for lunch before returning for remarks from CCNY President Vince Boudreau.
The afternoon featured two panels giving students a view of the field at different career stages — a Senior-Career Perspectives Panel moderated by Rob Henry, and an Early-Career Perspectives Panel moderated by Ryan Steele. The day closed with a tour of the City College and Colin Powell School Advancement offices, giving students a firsthand look at the work in practice.
