This past April 24, we celebrated with our alumni community at the Spring Alumni Networking event, hosted by the Colin Powell School Alumni Relations team. The gathering provided a meaningful opportunity for current students to meet and learn from alumni that are at different stages of their careers.
We are committed to building new pathways for students to connect with the alumni network early on to help build a sense of community and support that extends beyond graduation. Community can be found in many places and alumni were invited to view the network gathered that evening as part of a larger community that can support them both personally and professionally.
The event also highlighted the many ways alumni can give back to the Colin Powell School, which includes donations, networking, mentorship, developing internship pipelines for students, and ongoing engagement as active alumni.
The evening featured inspiring remarks from four alumni speakers, each reflecting on their career journeys after graduating from City College and emphasizing the importance of staying connected:
- Camden Malone, Master of International Affairs, Class of 2023, shared his experience as a mentor in the Alumni Mentorship Program and encouraged others to consider mentoring students as a powerful way to give back.
- Cris Mercado, Psychology graduate from the Class of 2002, spoke about the power of alumni networking and urged attendees to introduce themselves to someone new and seek opportunities to support one another.
- Angela Torregoza, Sociology alumna from the Class of 2008, discussed her path to founding Torregoza Legal PLLC, and emphasized how alumni can create critical paid internship opportunities that help launch student careers.
- Eilyn Zuniga, the Class of 2025 valedictorian, reflected on her journey, the support she received from the Colin Powell School, and her commitment to staying engaged as she transitions from student to alumna.
Each speaker reminded attendees that giving back can take many forms, and that the strength of the alumni network grows as new connections are made. By tapping into our shared community, we can continue to lift one another up.ย
