Clinical Psychology PhD Program Attains 100% for APPIC Internship Match

By: Colin Powell School

The Clinical Psychology PhD Program recently announced a 100% match rate in the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) Internship Match. Students in the program successfully matched with some of the top clinical training sites across New York.

The APPIC Match is one of the most competitive processes in clinical psychology training, as the number of applicants nationwide consistently exceeds the number of available APA-accredited internship positions. This year, the gap was even more pronounced due to significant funding reductions to hospitals and clinics, resulting in fewer available internship placements.

The application and preparation process is multifaceted and highly demanding. It includes completing multiple neuropsychological assessment batteries, engaging in intensive clinical supervision, drafting and refining essays and cover letters, preparing curricula vitae, participating in mock interviews, defending dissertation proposals, and receiving ongoing mentoring, advising, and support from faculty.

“I am incredibly grateful to our faculty for helping bring our doctoral students to the finish line,” said Diana Puñales, Director of Clinical Training and Director of the Psychological Center. “This achievement did not happen by chance.”

Achieving a 100% match rate reflects the strength and excellence of City College’s Clinical Psychology PhD Program and reinforces its position as a leader in the training of clinical psychologists in New York. Few programs can claim such a distinction.
