United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) Fellowship Initiative
UNA-USA is hoping to engage as many interested students and graduates as possible in our organization’s newly instituted UNA-USA Fellowship Initiative. The UNA-USA Fellowship Initiative is a first-of-its-kind stipend-based scholarship that aims to diversify the pipeline of individuals interested in working for the United Nations and other global agencies by providing financial support for American undergraduates and recent graduates who have secured unpaid internships with the United Nations. In the interest of reflecting the diversity of the global audience we serve, UNA-USA is especially excited to welcome and provide financial support to individuals belonging to underrepresented groups and communities such as those attending HBCUs, HSIs, TCUs, and colleges for the deaf and hard of hearing. We are accepting a total of 15 fellows for the 2023 calendar year. At this point in time, there are currently four slots remaining. In 2024, we will be accepting 30 fellows for the year. For a comprehensive list of the fellowship’s eligibility criteria/requirements, please refer here.
Interested students and graduates can begin to find various UN internship opportunities and vacancies on the UN Careers website. They may apply to any internship position of their choosing. However, it is important to note that these internship vacancies are extremely time-sensitive and appear/disappear depending on the availability of the position and the need of the agency or department, so students must apply as soon as possible. Once they have secured an internship with a UN agency, students are encouraged to explore funding with UNA-USA and to submit an application to the UNA-USA Fellowship Initiative if they meet the eligibility criteria outlined on our website. If selected, fellows may be awarded upwards of $12,000. Again, this is a limited time opportunity as applications to the UNA-USA Fellowship Initiative for the 2023 calendar year will close on December 31, 2023, at 11:59 PM EST. Please push this information out without delay, so that it may reach interested students and graduates.
