We are pleased to announce that, thanks to Colin Powell School alumnus Camden Malone, the City College Master of International Affairs (MIA) program has established an invaluable internship partnership with the United Nations Foundation. This collaboration will provide a select group of students with the opportunity to engage in key projects across several vital areas of global affairs during the Spring 2025 semester, including UN Relations, Peace and Security, and Future of Multilateralism, to name a few.
Speaking on the new partnership, MIA Program Director Nicholas Rush-Smith said “This partnership gives our students an opportunity to learn by working in one of the world’s most important organizations supporting multilateralism. Together with the UNF, it allows the MIA program to continue our important work of fostering a diverse new generation of global leaders. The MIA program is so thankful for all the work our colleagues at the UNF and in the Colin Powell School have put into making this partnership a reality, and we’re so excited to see the transformations it brings for our students!”
Five graduate students will be chosen to complete a 300-hour internship, contributing to impactful work while gaining hands-on experience in the field. As part of the program, students will receive a $5,400 stipend, generously funded through the Career Fellows Paid Internship Program. This fund was launched 2022 with a $2.5m gift from an anonymous donor in honor of General Powell and is generously supported by friends of the school, including members of the Board of Visitors.
Maya Gutierrez, Director of the Public Service Career Hub who oversees the partnership, expressed her enthusiasm for this opportunity: “There is a misconception that graduate students already possess all the professional training they need. Graduate school often broadens a student’s perspective, and pairing them with practical experience is key to their development.”
