The BA/MA program is an intensive track designed for academically gifted undergraduates, offering the opportunity to earn both a BA and an MA degree. The accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s program in Economics at CCNY enables exceptional students to complete their degrees at a faster pace than pursuing them separately.

This program offers highly qualified and motivated students the opportunity to earn their BA and MA degrees simultaneously.

The Economics BA/MA program equips students with essential problem-solving skills, teaching them to analyze complex situations, identify key factors, and make informed decisions. Through a curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, data analysis, and resource management, students gain insights into how economic principles shape everyday life, from financial markets to public policies. An accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s program in economics provides a versatile foundation, preparing graduates for diverse careers in finance, management, public policy, and academia.

Recent graduates have become entrepreneurs, joined major financial firms including JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, international organizations including the United Nations and the World Bank, and top PhD programs.

Admissions

Admission will be a competitive process. The minimum standards are:

  • Have B+ or above in Calculus, Statistics, Intermediate Micro, Macro, and an overall 3.5 GPA
  • Have completed less than 84 credits
  • Must maintain an overall 3.5 across all credits to receive a joint degree. BA/MA students must meet requirements of both degrees.
  • Requires a letter of recommendation

Degree Requirements

To earn an accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s degree in Economics, students must complete a total of approximately 138 credits, including around 32 credits in undergraduate economics courses and 36 graduate credits. Students in the program must maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.5.

The program follows a specific course sequence, as shown in the featured courses below, and culminates in an MA thesis. The thesis emphasizes the empirical application of economic theory, often with a policy focus, and must include a substantial empirical component, typically involving econometric analysis.

All courses must be selected in consultation with a departmental advisor.
