Dr. Fomerand completed his graduate studies at the City University of New York, where he earned a Ph.D. in political science. At the United Nations, Dr. Fomerand followed economic and social questions in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General of the former Department for International Economic and Social Affairs. From 1992 to June 2003, when he retired from the United Nations service, he was Director of the United Nations University Office in North America.
Dr. Fomerand has since taught for several years at the School of Diplomacy of Seton Hall University, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and NYU School of Global Affairs.ย From 2002 on, he has been involved in the United Nations Program of Occidental College. He is now the Assistant Director of the Program. He has been teaching at the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at City College for the past five years.
Dr. Fomerand has widely published on matters related to North-South issues, multilateralism, human rights and the United Nations. His latest publication by OUP is an extensive critical review of scholarly work on international organizations in the past few decades.ย
