Conversations in Leadership With Julissa Reynoso

On April 21, we had the distinct privilege of hosting former U.S. Ambassador to Spain Julissa Reynoso for an engaging and inspiring discussion. A proud New Yorker, Reynoso spoke about her journey from the Dominican Republic, to the Bronx, to becoming a lawyer, a public servant, and a prominent figure on the global stage.

She reflected on how her family, faith, and growing up in a “communal society driven by need” led naturally to a career in public service. She shared how her work on Hillary Clinton’s first presidential campaigns taught her the critical importance of showing up and building trust and relationships. Hers is an unconventional path characterized by belief in the capacity of government institutions to effect positive change; a willingness to take risks; and always being open to learning from others. She advised young people interested in careers in public service to be active in their own communities — and that being from New York City is the “greatest degree” she and they could have.
