Jennifer Disla Joins the Colin Powell School as Senior Fellow for Civic Engagement and Strategy

By: Colin Powell School

Jennifer Disla, Senior Fellow at the Colin Powell School, spent the summer engaging scholars across the United States and abroad to help build a strategic vision to meet the current political moment. As Practical Radical Scholar, Disla is grounding her work on the Seven Strategies to Change the World. She is a contributing author to Oxford University Press Publication: Be the Change, which takes Deepak Bhargava and Stephanie Luce’s frameworks from Power and Strategy course.

Disla has over twenty years of organizing experience in labor, community, and electoral strategies. In 2020, she co-led Youth Vote efforts in Detroit and co-chaired accountability work with the Defend Black Voters Campaign (DBV). DBV victory solidified access to ballot in Michigan.

She most recently co-led the Leadership for Democracy and Social Justice institute alongside Chris Torres, engaging a new generation of leaders in discussions and training on how to fight for power across movements, theories of change, and disciplines –– both from outside and inside existing institutions.

In her role as Senior Fellow for Civic Engagement and Strategy, Disla will spend the fall engaging students, faculty, and staff in lively discussions on what it takes to vote our values and shape the future through her “Democracy Forward” workshops.
