As the international community gathered in New York for the UN Conference on the Status of Women, the Colin Powell School became a hub for a different kind of diplomatic exchange. In partnership with Fundación FLOR, and under the auspices of the Department of Anthropology and Interdisciplinary Programs and Chair Lottie Silber, the School hosted a group of high-level Latin American business leaders to discuss the future of responsible, inclusive leadership.

A Welcome from Dean Marc Ostfield

The event opened with an introduction by Dean Marc Ostfield, who emphasized the school’s commitment to fostering international partnerships that bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world impact. The collaboration with Fundación FLOR — an organization dedicated to empowering leaders committed to social transformation — underscored the school’s role as a leader in global public affairs.

Keynote: The Malcorra Method

The highlight of the session was a keynote presentation by Susana Malcorra, a figure whose career serves as a blueprint for versatile leadership. As the President and co-founder of GWL Voices for Change and Inclusion, Malcorra brought a unique dual perspective to the room, having transitioned from a 25-year career in the private sector (including serving as CEO of Telecom Argentina) to the highest levels of the United Nations.

Malcorra, who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Argentina and Chef de Cabinet to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, spoke candidly about the necessity of diverse voices in decision-making spaces.

“Leadership isn’t just about holding a position; it’s about the responsibility to drive positive transformation,” Malcorra noted, echoing the mission of both the Colin Powell School and Fundación FLOR.

The Power of the FLOR Network

Founded by impact investor Andrea Grobocopatel, Fundación FLOR has built a network of over 2,000 senior executives and entrepreneurs across Latin America and the U.S. By bringing these leaders to the Colin Powell School, the event created a unique space for interdisciplinary dialogue, proving that whether in a corporate boardroom in Buenos Aires or a diplomatic mission in New York, the principles of equity and inclusion remain the ultimate drivers of success.
