From Preparation to Pitch: Students Get Career Fair Ready

By: Colin Powell School

In the lead-up to this semester’s Career Fair, the Colin Powell School offered students two opportunities to put their best foot forward. On March 5th, forty-five students attended a “Prepare for the Career Fair” workshop, building personalized checklists covering what to wear, what to bring, what to say, and what to research in advance. The session also guided students on how to approach the fair as a mutual interview — asking the right questions, not just answering them. On March 12th, ten students arrived early on the day of the Career Fair itself to practice their introductory pitches and walk in with confidence.

“I learned about the importance of having a brand and setting up/updating my Linkedin profile,” said attendee Cindi Baez.

“I learned that it is best to start with your bottom choice as a way to acclimate yourself to the environment and to practice your elevator pitch and talk with an employer. That way you could do better when talking to employers you want to impress,” said Jordi Munoz.

“I’m getting comfortable in this professional space. I’m feeling ready as more workshops I go to,” said Sbahat Tariq
