Alumnus Alvin Christian ‘16, a former research assistant in the Economics and Business Department of the Colin Powell School, has landed a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Public Policy at the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the University at Albany, SUNY.

A proud product of public education, Christian earned both his BA and MA in Economics right here at The City College of New York before going on to complete his PhD in Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan. His research — which examines how people make consequential decisions and how institutions shape them, with a particular focus on education access, domestic violence, and household decision-making — has been supported by the Institute of Education Sciences, cited in White House reports, and published in leading journals including the American Educational Research Journal and Oxford Economic Papers.

Christian also co-authored a research paper with Prabal De, chair of the Economics and Business Department, titled Microfinance participation and intimate partner violence among women in Bangladesh and published by Oxford Economics Papers.
